Full Festive Mode

With only a few days left, I’m finally, finally in the Christmas Spirit. It was hard to come by this year. Of course, I always get spurts of holiday cheer when I hear the Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas?, John Lennon’s War is Over and my favorite, Wham’s Last Christmas but I get in full-on festive mode during the last few days. It’s hard not to be when you’re surrounded with loved ones and the house is filled with wonderful aromas. I do so much baking during the holiday season, you might as well call me Edna Garrett.

There’s nothing like braving the rabid crowd on Christmas Eve to break ones festive spirit, not to mention the will to live. It doesn’t matter what country you are in. I realized years ago the Germans were as crazy as the Americans. I must be outta what’s left of my mind but I am gonna brace myself and go downtown tomorrow, the last day to shop before Christmas. This year I had such problems that I never made it downtown to the Christmas markets that I love so much. At least tomorrow I will get the chance. I will make it as brief as possible though. I plan on flying in, grabbing the first cute things I see, spending the little money I have left, then flying out. We’ll see how that turns out.

I’m glad Christmas comes but once a year or I’d be on heavy-duty stress pills with a broke ass year round. It boggles the mind that moms seem to do the bulk of the work. I told my other half I had so much to do, he acted like he didn’t know what I was talking about. Let’s see. After the tree was put up by him, I did the decorating and of course that included the house as well. I ordered both kid’s gifts plus the stocking stuffers and will go out to finish up tomorrow to wrap up loose ends while he sits at home and waits for packages. The lady who takes care of my little girl needed a present as well, which I picked out and wrapped. Most of the kid’s presents have to be wrapped. The kids have to have things to wear for church service so I have to make sure they have all their clothes ready. I have planned Christmas dinner down to the finest detail and will have to cook all of it, not to mention doing all the baking for parties we usually attend.

Our social ranking must have hit a nosedive since I didn’t attend one party this year except the one at my daughter’s daycare. I could tell people I chose to lower my profile this year. Anyways, when it comes to Christmas, the mom is in charge. By the way, when did I morph into Martha Stewart? I don’t plan on going to prison but if I do, I hope at least I have a warmer disposition. I’m surprised she made it out alive.

On that note, I wish you a Holly Jolly Christmas and I will attempt to keep the Spirit alive until the 25th. Wish me Luck :)
