Who Do You Think You Are?

Thank God for modern technology. I love catching up with old friends online, especially through instant messages. I enjoy it if I actually know you, that is. There have been several people I have never met that seem to jump on me the minute I log on to Facebook and then start to ask very personal questions. What makes people think they have the right to ask things such as: Are you married? Do you really love your partner? What’s wrong? You can tell me. I can tell by the look on your face something is wrong.

This bothers me to no end.

Who do they think they are? I would freely give out that info to certain people but not a total stranger especially since you don’t really know who you’re dealing with online. One guy from India even told me he wanted to come live with me in Germany. As if! I found it very presumptuous and rude. I told him I already had a special someone and kids. It would be awkward. He then proceeded to judge me since I am not married. Yes, I stupidly volunteered that information. Like he didn’t just ask to shack up with me a few minutes before. I found it very hypocritical. Needless to say, I blocked him. I was going to delete him but for some reason I didn’t. He just lingers on my wall with out any interaction on my part. I will block you in a heartbeat if you, a total stranger, obsessively send messages trying to pry and get personal information from me. I am not an easy target so forget it. I’m a little bit too old and a little bit too smart. If you are Ewan McGregor, however, I am willing to play dumb. There’s always an exception to the rule, people. Okay, I did sign up with a dating site by accident and I do expect some feedback there. I swear I thought it was a networking site like Facebook. I hope that doesn’t throw a crimp in my relationship.

On the upside, I do like it when my inbox is filled with messages from real life friends or the instant message box pops up inviting me to friendly conversation. It’s especially nice when I get multiple boxes popping up. When it rains, man it pours. It’s so nice to know that a few people actually enjoy my company without having to question their motives. That’s all I want. If you can provide that we can take it from there :)
