Smug Be Thy Name

Very few articles make me angry but this one somehow managed. The world’s wealthiest woman, Gina Rinehart say the poor are jealous of her 20 billion fortune, which may be true but what a smug thing to say, especially when the whole world seems to be in recession.  This person, who hasn’t worked a day in her life, sees fit to tell her fellow Australians that they need to smoke less, drink less and work harder in order successful. While those may be good rules to live by, she should not be the lone voice saying such things. I just wanna slap her fat face off.  She inherited billions from her father and she who can’t begin to understand how the other half lives. She who has the nerve to suggest the minimun wage in Australia be reduced to stimulate the economy. I don’t begrudge the wealthy their wealth but don’t begrudge me my hard-earned money, telling me I am overpaid. I am not Australian but these type of people are universal.  I worked for a company in the US  years ago owned by a Korean women. She was very wealthy and had enough to pay everyone their 14 dollars an hour, but she threatened to shut down the plant if we didn’t take a paycut. So, guess what, I got poorer working 12 hour shifts in an un air conditioned plant, while she was sitting in the lap of luxury, most likely air conditioned and not worrying about her bills. There are always the haves and the have-nots. Never trample on the have-nots. I’m pretty sure there’s a bible verse somewhere pertaining to this, just don’t ask me to quote one. Here’s a real article:

That Korean (Vietamese?) woman you are speaking of ended up shutting down that plant and filed bankruptcy on several others in 2008…now they are all gone. I think all of us in the automotive industry knew what was going on and felt it before everybody else knew what had hit them. Our economy had been falling apart for quite some time, but I believe everybody was so focused on war that nobody noticed. Anyways, I digress….I bet that Korean woman in her 12 inch heels isn’t so smug now!

My father, who worked for GM told me over the phone about my paycut since I was spending Christmas in Germany that year. Somehow I feel that really isn’t in line with the Christmas Spirit.I remember meeting her and she was really sweet but that was only once. Something tells me she’s not hurting too badly but who knows.
