My Radio Makes Some Terrible Noises

What has happened to music? It has been a steady decline since the 60′s. I personally never cared for the 50′s doo wop so I won’t include it in my discussion. On a side note, I’m glad I didn’t live through the 50′s. It looks way too dull. I would be waiting for the 60′s revolution to get into full gear. What a time to be alive – too bad I wasn’t. Anyways,  I feel really old saying this but today’s music is not music in my opinion. It’s mainly rap crap that’s shoved down our throats on a daily basis. What happened to songwriters and truly talented artists, ones that don’t rely on auto-tune? Please God, bring them back. One of my favorite memes tells God he can have Justin Bieber if he’ll just return Freddie Mercury to us. Sounds reasonable to me.

Let’s start with the late 70′s since I pretty much start here with it. Disco sure was fun and I loved the Bee Gees. They were hot back in the day. I remember someone bringing over Andy Gibb’s single Shadow Dancing and playing it on a record player. Now it’s considered an oldie. Then when Grease came out I practically worshipped Olivia Newton-John with her beautiful, heartfelt songs. Back then she could do no wrong. She must have though if her boyfriend jumped off the back of a boat and faked his own death. Anyways, going back to music… There was the invention of MTV in ’81 and I was in heaven. We had Queen, Journey, the Scorpions, Loverboy, Asia, Tom Petty, and the list goes on and on. Those were pre-Madonna days and boy, do I miss those. I fell in love with Culture Club and the androgynous Boy George at an early age. Just loved em. I remember Billy Ocean being in every soundtrack halfway through the decade and Steve Guttenberg being in every movie then they both abruptly fell off the face of the earth. After doing some extensive internet research (Wikipedia) I found out that Mr. Ocean wasn’t dead as rumored – probably just living a comfortable life on his Caribbean Queen money and Steve Guttenberg is just keeping a low profile these days a la Captain and Tennille. Then there was Chicago – heaven on a stick. They just don’t make those well crafted songs with actual sngers anymore, now it’s just someone talking over music. Shame. Today I still get the warm fuzzies when I hear Peter Cetera’s voice. Tell me I’m not the only one. Then in ’89 I got into alternative music as the mainstream stuff was not to my taste anymore. New Kids on the Block, no thanks. And here we see the beginning of the end – too many crappy boy bands. And here we start to see the likes of Vanilla Ice, the forerunner to rap and I think we all know how that ended. Thanks a lot guy.
