Me and Johnnie B

Now that the craziness of the holiday season is over and, sadly, I have to take down my Christmas decorations – such a cheerless task, it gives me time to reflect on the past year and wonder what the new year will bring. In retrospect, many years have come and gone since Christmas ’96 but one thing has remained with me each year since. It is the story of little JonBenet Ramsey, a very sad story of a life cut tragically short. I have not been able to get enough of this story since. I know I am not alone here.

I will never forget that Christmas the story came to the forefront and JonBenet into my thoughts. I was still in college – young and cute, enjoying everything life has to offer, having a string of suitors at my disposal – yes, life was really good at one point. Sadly, I don’t think I’ve been as happy since. It was my moment in the sun. Unfortunately, life can turn around and spit in your face the next minute. I’m sure the Ramseys would agree as well. She was robbed of what could have been a fabulous life.

I was waiting tables at Shoney’s around that time. It was a few days after Christmas that I was sitting in the shabby little breakroom, scanning and reading the newspaper for lack of anyone to talk to. Back then the news was actually in print. The internet was still fairly new and had yet to dominate everything. It was the end of an era and the beginning of a new one, but that’s a whole other story. As I was perusing, a little bitty side article caught my eye. It was just a little snippet about about a beauty pageant queen with a beauty pageant mother being found dead. The details were very lacking but I was already intrigued. I guess the Natchitoches Times didn’t deem it very newsworthy. Strangely they had a whole section devoted to who was having a birthday party, if that tells you anything. I couldn’t wait to cross my T’s, dot my I’s and get the hell outta there.

Needless to say, The JonBenet story did capture the rest of the world’s attention. Murders happen everyday so what’s so special about this one? Let’s see. We have a 6 year old beauty pageant queen, dead in a mansion on Christmas night, a 2 page ransom note, with the pen and paper coming from inside the house and no signs of an intruder. In the next blogpost, I will delve into more specifics regarding this cold, but always fascinating case. I hope you will join me and put your two cents in :)

I heard the FBI still checks for DNA match-ups each week. Hopefully, one day, they will catch Jon Benets murderer. Either way he will pay.

I think it’s an inside job, meaning someone in the family did it..

I agree- it is most likely a family member… but we also must remember that this was a very public-living girl, very sexualized not just by her own family, but by the pageant people, the people who attended, the competitors, the coaches, the dressmakers, the salespeople- I mean, the sheer number of potentials is endless. And then figure in the issue that a whole bunch of stuff was done to cover something up- and then add in the sex abuse.. Well now, sex abuse in and of itself is not all that uncommon. One in Five children are sexually abused. It’s heartbreaking. That doesn’t mean that someone will kill the child, though. It’s possible that JB died after an episode of sexual abuse, even of an allergy, or something- it’s hard to say- and then the scene was staged to look like she was murdered, and by an intruder, etc, so as to throw off law enforcement from the other capital offence that had occurred. Either way someone could go to prison, and criminals don’t want that, right- so of course they will lie and cover it up. She was so objectified, it’s sickening. I mean, I don’t ever know how to look at this case anymore. She could have been murdered, or she could have died of neglect (same as murder anyways since she’s a kiddo) and even if neither happened, if anyone was honest or got found out about sex abuse, then its going to go back to murder one anyways. So begins the web of lies.

I agree that the sexualization of this child is sickening. You have the question what was going on in her mom’s mind to exploit her daughter like that. I read that Patsy’s claimed she had multiple personalities. If true, this would open up a plethora of new possiblities to add to the countless ones we already have now. I do think the child was accidentally murdered and it was covered up making it look very ritualistic. Or it actually was a ritual. Some say she was a victim of a satanic sacrifice involving certain members high up. One thing that makes this theory credible is that there was a massive cover up with the authorities. I will go into this theory later since it seems to be a very popular one.
