Humbug I Say

What the world needs now is love sweet love and possibly something to smile about, but please, enough with the Gangnam Style. I have seen various takes on it, one even including the unfunny Heidi Klum. Now some fool has synchronized his Christmas lights to go with the song. Here’s a peek. Lucky neighbors. Not that I want to begrudge that little Korean singer any fame or money but I am so over it. It’s tired and I wish it to be retired. It’s passed it’s sell-by-date. Put it next to Who Let The Dogs Out and let it be. Next Please.

Let’s talk about something more important, like shopping. Black Friday shopping, to be precise. I thought I heard something about Gray Thursday, which is Thanksgiving Day. Oh, no no no no no. I am not getting my gluttonous self off the couch on that day to grab a deal, sorry. Okay, back to Friday. I have never in all my years of Christmas shopping, been to a Black Friday sale. First of all, I am not camping out or getting up at the butt crack of dawn to wrestle a TV out of someone else’s grasping hand just to be pepper sprayed and end up writhing on the ground in agony, empty handed. No thanks.

A few years back, a friend’s sister was at the front of the WalMart mob waiting for their doors to open. When they did, she apparently wasn’t fast enough and she got knocked to the ground and couldn’t get up. When she finally did, she was black and blue. I think she learned her lesson. It’s sad when material goods are more important than stopping for a minute to help someone up. I love Christmas but I am not going to Black Friday, especially at WalMart – not worth it. Somehow I don’t think that’s what Jesus had in mind for his birthday celebrations, people pinching and clawing each other over an Xbox.

I’ll just stay in the comfort of my own home and order online, thank you. I’ll just sit at home and peruse Amazon and ebay while I listen to listening to Wham’s Last Christmas. To each his own I guess :)
