Time Is On My Side

Since Halloween is officially over for me, I will move on from ghosts to the next best thing – Time Travel. I always found it fascinating. I never really delved into and studied it but I do enjoy the topic when it comes up. I’ve read the odd articles about time slips and parallel universe, etc,. I especially love the movies.

One of my favorite movies ever is Time After Time. Malcolm McDowell plays H.C. Wells who constructed a time machine in his basement where he follows Jack the Ripper to modern day San Fransisco. That might be a little hard to follow. Just watch the move and you will understand. It combines the best of both worlds. Time travel and Jack the Ripper all in one movie! There is a God.

Another favorite is the mushy Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve movie Somewhere in Time. The male character lays on a bed in a hotel room with a tape recorder for days and hypnotizes himself into another era to find his beloved. I love the possibilities this one offers. If you can’t find somebody in the here and now, you can choose someone from any time and place – an embarrassment of riches. I could take up with Valentino or become another wife of Henry the VIII. I think I will stop short of the tape recorder though. Let’s at least go with a CD.

I remember a few years back they supposedly caught a short clip of what appears to be an old lady on her cell phone in the outtakes of the 1928 Charlie Chaplin movie The Circus. There are several uploaded on YouTube for your viewing pleasure. Some say she’s using a hearing aid, most likely a hearing trumpet, but she is obviously talking to someone. Who talks into a hearing aid? Who is this woman. Is it a woman at all? She looks pretty burly to me. The big question is, who is on the other end? Charlie himself? An obsessed fan that is willing to stalk him throughout time? One never knows but I can’t imagine the charges. If you look very closely, she is talking into something and looks at the camera, like the person she was talking to brought it to her attention. Is the unseen person in the same time as the lady or back in the future? Question, questions. The clip isn’t from the movie, it’s from the premier of the movie and the character is just a regular person. It’s one of those thing were you should decide for yourself and, personally, I want to believe.

I love the possibility of going back in time and I am totally open to it. I just don’t want to get stuck in the sands of time. It would suck to get all the way to the time of the bubonic plague and be stuck there. Let’s face it. I can’t possibly cram everything into this post that I want. I think I will have to devote another lengthy article to this subject. I will gather some more info and I will let you know what I learned. Until next time. Ciao :)
