Magical Places

There is something about winter turning to spring that makes my body tingle and gives me a reason to live. Once the winter is over, the sparkle inside me comes back into being. To tell you the truth, I feel pretty dark from October until January. Towards the end of January though, I can catch a whiff of spring lingering in the air. My artistic ability is renewed along with the promise of a good year and things to come. Usually this sparkle lasts through the spring months and peters out sometime around June. Summer has a steamy vibe all it’s own but it’s predecessor is like a breath of fresh air with the flowers in bloom and the long, cold winter finally over.

In those early months of the year, I surround myself with frivolous, fluffy things and I am more light hearted. I am more likely to wear hot pink and be a girly girl. I think of it as a Valentine’s vibe that’s extended. I always go into the stores and stock up on all the decorations such as heart shaped plates, spoon rests and other what-nots. Please say I’m not the only one. I’m such a sucker for the heart shape and anything doused in glitter. I have an idea of what Heaven might look like.

I try to follow the magic but it only exists in certain places. It’s in Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, in Jeannie’s posh bottle and even in Barbie’s cool Townhouse with her equally cool friends – those place you always wanted to go but were never invited. It exists in my own imagination. The older I get the more I realize that this magical world is something I created in my head but I’m content to keep my illusions. We all do what we have to to make it in this world, don’t we? I thrive on Fairy Dust – a heavy dose.

Despite my previous statements, I do notice that the magic exists within certain people. Marilyn Monroe and Clara Bow before her automatically come to mind. They seem to be illuminated from within and the rest of us mortals just can’t get enough but, unfortunately, I think these people are rare. We don’t see too many Marilyns or Claras walking around these days no matter how many people wished it. Maybe it just goes unnoticed because it’s not packaged as beautifully. We are all made of star dust but it seems like some people shine more brightly. On that note, I will sign off. So shine on :)

 Magic

Sandra’s seen a leprechaun,
Eddie touched a troll,
Laurie danced with witches once,
Charlie found some goblins’ gold.
Donald heard a mermaid sing,
Susy spied an elf,
But all the magic I have known
I’ve had to make myself.
