In Heaven Everything Is Fine

No matter who you are or what you are, you have wondered and worried at some time or other where you will go when your life on earth is over. Let’s face it, a lot of our earthly life is spent worrying about dying but death comes to us all eventually. It’s the Great Equalizer.

Though you might not tell from looking at me or talking to me and knowing my penchant for the Dark Side that I had a conservative, Southern Baptist upbringing. Though a little too conservative for my taste, it did instill in me my basic beliefs: There is only one God. He had one son named Jesus who was born to a virgin. Jesus died on the cross to save you and me so we could live with him in Heaven forever and ever. This may sound simple and stupid to the unbeliever but I do believe it with all my heart. Every so often, in my cynicism, I also tend to question Heaven’s existence. I’m only human. I do believe though, there is a paradise waiting for those who have accepted Jesus as their lord and savior.

Having been a lifelong resident of earth, the perfection of Heaven is hard to fathom. There is no death, no hate, no tears and, fortunately, no bills to pay – Ever. “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4) Everything is perfect – Forever. I would be lying if I said the word ‘forever’ didn’t scare the crap out of me. It has been the cause of many an anxiety attack but that’s another story.

On the other hand, it’s exciting for me to think that we will be in a place where there is nothing to be sad about whatsoever. My depression and anxiety that has plagued me my whole life will be non-existent. That alone is hard enough to fathom since it’s been with me so long. The icing on the cake is that we will be reunited with our loved ones in Christ who have already passed on and death can no longer separate us. Death will no longer have power over us ever again. What a glorious thought. No thought of death hanging over me like a dark cloud.

Where is Heaven you ask? We have the heavens that consist of clouds, blue skies, stars and the galaxy beyond that twinkles with it’s celestial beauty. Then we have the heaven that you can’t see. A place you can only get to in spirit. This is where the Throne of God sits. I can’t imagine approaching it.

Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father on his throne in Heaven while a heavenly host of beings chant day in and day out. “Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty–the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” (Revelation 4:8) Having someone chirping in my ear nonstop for eternity doesn’t sound fun to me, to be honest. I have had the fear that it might be a big bore behind the Pearly Gates and the bus to hell might be more fun but we can be assured the opposite is true.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”(Revelation 2:9) The Bible states that Heaven is a place of rewards so this does sweeten the pot immensely. Imagine, after a lifetime of heartache and struggle, coming to claim your reward and the creator of all there is wanting to give it to you for a job well done. Sounds good to me. Personally, I believe it will be whatever we want. My idea of Heaven is me sitting on a silver glittered cloud with my friends who will all be dead too, wearing some fabulously sparkly shoes while being entertained by the Golden Girls themselves. Certainly the Girls wouldn’t deny me. It is Heaven after all. I believe Heaven has endless possibilities and we won’t be sitting on a cloud forced to play a harp. It will be an eternal playground doing whatever it is we want to do and that sounds awesome to me. Absolutely Awesome :)

I recently picked up a book from the library that a friend recommended, “The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven”. Have you heard of it? It’s about a boy who barely survives a horrible car accident, goes into a coma for 2 monthes, then awakens and tells these amazing stories of what heaven is like. I haven’t read it yet. Check it out. I can’t even fathom what heaven will be like but I’m pretty sure we won’t need food or anything to drink. Too bad, I loves my foood! No more chinese buffets, chocolate, or Coca Cola. No more sex for that matter. ;) Church all day everyday. When’s the last time you went to church? Me too. Maybe I’m just not good enough to make it to heaven. I’ll probably go to hell for just saying those things. And I sure don’t wanna go to hell!

I saw the interview with the boy but haven’t had the chance to read it.
